Area Educators for Social Justice on Saturday, January 25, 2025, for an online curriculum fair featuring a keynote speaker and workshops set to uplift the national demands based in the Black Lives Matter guiding principles that focus on improving the school experience for students of color.

DCAESJ and EmpowerEd DC’s third annual Unapologetically Black Educator Story Lounge was just as powerful, moving, and joyous as the previously held events.

On Saturday, January 20, hundreds of educators gathered virtually to prepare for the 2024 National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action (February 5–9).

On Saturday, January 21, 2023 Teaching for Change hosted a virtual curriculum fair featuring workshops, a keynote speaker, and time for educators to learn more about the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action, taking place February 6-February 10, 2023.

A Week of Action. A Year of Purpose. A Lifetime Commitment. And all of this can start with just a few hours of planning. On Saturday, January 7th, all DCAESJ working groups joined together and invited fellow D.C. area educators to share advice, build on resources, begin planning their BLM at School Week of Action, and continue to participate in the Year of Purpose.

On Saturday, January 21, hundreds of educators gathered virtually to connect, collaborate, and prepare for the 2023 National Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action (February 6–10) and Year of Purpose.

At MacFarland Middle School (DCPS), Melanie Holmes’ students spent the week contemplating how to ensure all Black lives matter at their school.

Students in grades 9/10 English Language Arts classes in the International Academy (newly arrived immigrant students) and a grade 11/12 elective course at Cardozo Education Campus (DCPS) collaborated throughout the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. This followed a unit on the Civil Rights Movement.

Thanks to the generosity of several publishers, educators will receive free books for use in their classrooms for reporting back their experience of the 2021 Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action, including the Black Lives Matter at School Curriculum Fair.

More than 140 educators and teacher ed students from the metro D.C. area came together for a D.C. Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action Curriculum Fair at Howard University on January 22. The D.C. Area Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Schools gave a powerful start to Black History Month in classrooms across the Washington, D.C. area. Pre-K — 12th grade teachers in more than 100 schools taught lessons about structural racism, intersectional Black identities, and Black history.
