Exploring Differences
A story from Day Four of Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Schools.
Educator Trisha Boyd, at KIPP DC Lead Academy, conducted a read aloud on accepting differences to the entire second grade. At the start of the lesson, Ms. Boyd, began with a review, “This week we have been talking about Black Lives Matter Week of Action in Schools. Can someone tell me what you know about Black Lives Matter?”
Several students raised their hands and one in particular shared, “Black Lives Matter is like the Civil Rights Movement.” Ms. Boyd thanked and affirmed the students' response. Following which, she transitioned into reading the a children’s picture book about differences.
