On February 15, 2021, 36 preservice teachers from Gallaudet University, Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, and the Maryland School for the Deaf, gathered for a virtual workshop presentation titled Teaching About the Black Lives Matter 13 Guiding Principles in Early Childhood Classrooms.

The workshop was co-led by Makai Kellogg,  anti-bias early childhood educator and Equity and Diversity Coordinator at School for Friends, DCAESJ coordinator Rosalie Reyes, and Dr. Julie Mitchiner, MA Program Director and Co-Director of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Infants, Toddlers, and their Families: Leadership & Collaboration Graduate Certificate Program. The workshop focused on children’s literature for each of the Black Lives Matter at School 13 Guiding Principles and pedagogical approaches to participating in the national movement for Black Lives Matter at School in early childhood education. The event served as a testimony to the intersectionality of the liberation movement for schooling and education and the support for anti-racist pedagogy within teacher preparation programs.
