Key Figures in U.S. History

Mark McCants, the math resource teacher at Stoddert Elementary School (DCPS), shared this description of the school’s activities.

We celebrated Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action by researching Black historical and present day individuals.

We focused on individuals who stood for social justice and change. As a culminating activity we had an assembly that brought these individuals to life. We put on a living wax museum where students portrayed themselves as the Black individuals and gave information about themselves. We had lots of fun while having in depth conversations about how we will use our knowledge of the past to change the future.
