DCPS Endorsed Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action

DC Public Schools has endorsed the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action and sent the following notice and video to all its staff:

DCPS is proud to support DC Black Lives Matter at Schools Week of Action, taking place from February 1-5, 2021. This week is a national movement of educators organizing for racial justice in education. The goal is to collectively affirm the lives and uplift the voices of Black students.

As a district, we believe students and educators must examine, address, and spark ongoing discussions on issues of racism and discrimination they experience in their communities. We encourage students and educators to get involved by engaging with the Black Lives Matter at Schools lesson plans, resources, and professional development opportunities. For more information, visit dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org.

This endorsement builds on the active participation by DCPS teachers in the Week of Action since 2018 and the District of Columbia State Board of Education 2019 resolution, recognizing the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. In the summer of 2019, every DCPS school received a copy of the book Teaching for Black Lives during the DCPS Summer Leadership Institute.

Below are photos from the past few years of D.C. area classes and the annual Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action Curriculum Fair hosted by Teaching for Change and Howard University.
