During the February 2022 D.C. State Board of Education (DCSBOE) meeting, Ceremonial Resolution CR22-3 was passed celebrating Black History Month and Black Lives Matter at School

This resolution highlighted the fifth annual Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action facilitated in the D.C. area by Teaching for Change

The resolution concluded:

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the D.C. State Board of Education recognizes and celebrates February as Black History Month, appreciates the work of Black Lives Matter at School, and acknowledges this organization’s importance to D.C.’s students; and

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the State Board is committed to fostering a more inclusive and equitable environment for Black students and families in our schools and in our community and will pursue that commitment through advocating for policies that attack the roots of systemic inequality, building education standards that better represent the experiences of Black students, and elevating the voices of the Black community in education.

Ahead of the unanimous vote to pass the resolution, VP of the Board of Education Eboni-Rose Thompson shared:

I am thrilled that we are passing this… I am appreciative that they [Teaching for Change] were included in the resolution because their work should be honored. And that includes the work that they do around Black Lives Matter at School every year.

Additionally Board of Education member, Emily Gasoi noted:

I really appreciated including Teaching for Change in the resolution. And I was thinking about them this year… They have amazing resources as always. I just wanted to send them love and all the teachers who are stretched so thin.
