ASL Based Mock Election

During the 2020 election season, D.C. educators Lia Bengtson and Tarja Lewis, along with a few of their colleagues, planned to conduct a mock election at their school. They teach at Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, a day school for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in the District of Columbia. They put their content on a website for their students who are all engaging in classes remotely. Everything is captioned in English and has transcripts and image descriptions for blind and low vision accessibility.

Here's the link to their site.

A friend who teaches Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) students at another school wanted to join, so they decided to open up their mock election to DHH schools and programs across the nation. Lia wrote, “It grew way beyond our expectations. We ended up having 34 schools in 23 states and the District of Columbia participate.”
