When Black Lives Matter At School Virtual Panel

  • Washington, DC, 20009 United States (map)

Join the Communities for Just Schools Fund and our partners for a virtual panel discussion featuring educators and organizers working at the intersections of education justice, racial justice, and gender justice.

Building on the momentum on the national Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action, the discussion will center the need for school curriculum, pedagogy, policies, and supports that examine structural racism, and highlight intersectional Black identities, Black history, and anti-racism.

The goal of the panel is to spark dialogue about action towards intergenerational efforts to dismantle structural and systemic racism in schools and communities. Together, we will pose a dream and vision for what safe, loving, and affirming schools look like and feel like for Black and Brown students and communities. This interactive event will include learning centered in the 13 Guiding Principles of Black Lives Matter and more.

Panelists include:
Allyson Criner Brown, Associate Director & Tellin’ Stories Project Manager, Teaching for Change
I-Ra Abubaker, Youth Facilitator - Critical Exposure
Esteniolla Harbor, Director of Development - Youth on Board
Caneisha Mills, 8th grade history teacher at Hardy Middle School (DCPS)
Moderated by: Cierra Kaler-Jones, Education Anew Fellow, Communities for Just Schools Fund & Teaching for Change
