About this event

Join EmpowerEd and Teaching for Change's D.C. Area Educators for Social Justice for the 2025 Unapologetically Black Educator Storylounge!

Black Educators have had a tremendous impact on education in the DMV for well over a century. Today, we continue to be the beating heart of education in DC and beyond! Join us to tell your story, celebrate the dedicated work of Black educators, and discuss the transformative work to create antiracist, liberated schools.

This event is presented as part of EmpowerEd's Rest + Rise Social Group for Black Educators and the national 2025 Black Lives Matter at School Week of ActionWe'll build community, celebrate one another's stories and journeys, and incorporate the Black Lives Matter at School's 4 demands: end zero tolerance for students, fund counselors not cops, teach Black history, and end the pushout of Black teachers. Become part of the movement to support Black educators who fight for justice in schools!

Appetizers and one free drink of your choice will be provided. Additional food and drink options are available for purchase. Our event will be located in the back room of HalfSmoke, a short walk from the U Street and Shaw-Howard Metro Stations. Limited street parking is available.

Tickets are $10.
