Counselors, Not Cops: Black Lives Matter at School
Trinity Washington University hosted an evening event, "Counselors, Not Cops: Black Lives Matter at School," for students, faculty, and the general public on February 4, 2019 as part of DC Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action. There was a panel discussion with Courtney Berry, LGSW, Dr. Cynthia Greer, Dr. Evelyn Iraheta, Hilary Kulig (DC charter school counselor), Liz Maldonado (DCPS school counselor). After their presentations, attendees engaged in the student creativity challenge and decompressed by drawing in the Black Lives Matter at School Activity book.
The event was organized by the Graduate Counseling Association (GCA) under the leadership of Trinity Washington University graduate students Taylor Shiver and Destinee Smith in collaboration with Denisha Jones, head of teacher education at Trinity and a member of the Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action Steering Committee.
